Golden Gate Highlands NP
For the last park on this trip we picked Golden Gate Highlands. This one is a little more accessible, with a public road crossing the park and a small town nearby so we chose to stay in Clarens.
Golden Gate is famous for its large mushroom sandstone rocks and for the vulture hide and feeding site. Of course we explored the rocks on foot. We also stopped multiple times at the vulture hide but never saw any birds on the ground.
While we stayed in Clarens we also did a day drive back to the top of the escarpment near Witsieshoek. The plan was to do the famous hike over the ladders to Sentinel Peak and Tugela Falls. Unfortunately, we had to abort before we even reached the ladders when a thunderstorm moved in.
