It's fire season in South Africa and today the woods above our neighborhood caught alight. Normally any fire close to town is nerve wracking but this time conditions were perfect (no wind, quick heli response, dam water nearby) so we could enjoy the show from our stoop.

Apparently the helicopter is a Stellenbosch stationed Black Hawk with an interesting back story. After two hours of non-stop drops he was able to step down wth ground crews staying behind for cleanup through the night. Well done and thanks!
